I'm a minor league baseball writer. Dirt under my fingernails.
In 2008, three years after starting my writing career, I created 'High Heels On The Field' as an outlet to write about my thoughts on baseball, in a fun, but professionally-minded way. The title was meant to be fun, tongue-in-cheek, as well as a tribute to all the women that came before me, and a statement: we're here, deal with it.
I used it to profile minor league and independent players, as well as to express things I couldn't say in a story for a newspaper or other website.
Two and a half years later, I switched over to exclusive minor league content. I'd covered MiLB most of my career, it was my passion, and what I knew the most about. Prospects and covering minor league games was my main focus, so it felt right.
I joined Twitter to share my professional work, as well as HHOTF, using the shortened HeelsOnTheField as my handle. In 2011, espnW named me one of the top women in sports to follow on Twitter. In 2013, I was asked by MiLB to speak at the Winter Meetings about covering the minors and my thoughts on the future of MiLB.
I continue to use Twitter to talk about the minor leagues and prospects everyday, and the blog remains a place for me to cover the minors, tell players stories, and express thoughts I can't anywhere else. In that way, it remains true to it's origin.
Professional Life:
I'm a baseball writer and editor. I created the blog All Heels on Deck in 2018 to prioritize the voices of women, non-white women and LGBTQ people in baseball.
I've provided minor league coverage for The Worcester Telegram, The Trentonian, The Press of Atlantic City, The Durham Herald-Sun, Max Preps, The Binghamton Press & Bulletin, FanGraphs, Max Preps, Gotham Baseball Magazine, Pirates Prospects, Project Prospect, and Baseball Digest, where I had my own column covering MiLB.
I covered Florida Spring Training in 2012 & 2013 for MLB.com, Junior Baseball Magazine, and Pirates Prospect and Minor League Ball, and was a feature writer for the high school sports magazine Ultimate Athlete, New York City edition. In 2016, I covered MiLB for Baseball Prospectus. In 2015-17, I covered the Yankees minor leagues for Pinstriped Prospects.
I covered the New York Penn League for Gotham Baseball in 2012 and covered NYPL and the Eastern League in 2012 and 2013 for FanGraphs. I filed weekly reports for FanGraphs evaluating Penn and Eastern League prospects.
I was a regular contributor to Junior Baseball Magazine beginning in 2005, interviewing and profiling Major League players and writing feature stories.
I've also covered high school cross country for The Trentonian and Milesplit.com.
